After 16 hours: Schubert Motorsport is well-placed in the race at the Nordschleife
Mixed feelings at Schubert Motorsport after 16 hours of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring (DE). Eight hours before the end of the race, the number 100 BMW M6 GT3 is in fifth place and is within touching distance of the podium positions. John Edwards (US), Jens Klingmann (DE), Lucas Luhr (DE) and Martin Tomczyk (DE) made it through the night without any problems.   However, things didn't go quite as well for the number 18 car: Damage to the drivetrain forced Jörg Müller (DE) to retire the BMW M6 GT3 in the evening. The team’s mechanics worked hard overnight to repair the car. The plan is to send car number 18 driven by Müller, Augusto Farfus (BR), Jesse Krohn (FI) and Marco Wittmann (DE) back onto the track shortly. Müller was in the lead when the technical issues arose.   Both Schubert cars weathered the turbulent initial phase of the 24 Nürburgring Hours well. Severe storms meant that the race had to be suspended after just 50 minutes. Hail covered sections of the track, forcing the drivers to stop on the track. After a long break, the race was able to continue shortly after 8 p.m. CEST.   Quotes from the race:   Martin Tomczyk (number 100 BMW M6 GT3): "We drove double stints during the night. It was okay. We didn't risk too much and drove safely, but quickly. We were mostly between third and fifth place. I'm happy, it went quite well even though there was a lot going on on the track. But that is the Nürburgring."   Jörg Müller (number 18 BMW M6 GT3): “The first thing I noticed was the car vibrating. At first I thought it was a puncture. Then I suddenly lost all power and it started to smoke. Something broke in the drivetrain. It is a huge shame, as we were running really well.”
