Joining the DTM with the BMW M4 GT3 heralds new chapter in GT3 racing
For Schubert Motorsport, joining the DTM marks another milestone in a history that spans more than two decades. The squad have achieved some notable success with the BMW M6 GT3 during the past two years, thus positioning themselves to tackle fresh challenges. Fielding the BMW M4 GT3’s predecessor, the M6, a win and three podiums in the ADAC GT Masters were achieved among other things as well as the fastest lap in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
Schubert Motorsport have secured the services of two first-class drivers from the BMW M Motorsport roster for their debut in the DTM which has been run according to GT3 rules and regulations since 2021. Philipp Eng and Sheldon van der Linde have taken two wins and four pole positions between them in the DTM, plus seven podium finishes each as well as several fastest race laps and have competed as teammates for BMW in the past.
BMW pairing of Eng and van der Linde will make a potent duo
Eng cut his teeth in single-seater racing where he went on to become a race winner in FIA Formula 2. He took championship titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup and in the Porsche Supercup after switching to sports cars. BMW first signed him as a works driver in 2016. Apart from his many successes in the DTM, the 31-year-old Austrian has had an impressive career in GT3 racing, securing wins in various series in 2016 and 2017, including in the legendary 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps.
His 22-year-old team-mate, Sheldon van der Linde, comes from a family with motor racing in its DNA, having made it to the top of international motorsport along with his brother, Kelvin. The South African driver finished runner-up in his first year in the ADAC GT Masters back in 2017 and became a prime candidate for more demanding roles after producing strong performances in GT3 racing. BMW signed him to the DTM in 2019. As a works driver for the Bavarian automobile manufacturer, he already raced for Schubert Motorsport at the Lausitzring in the 2020 ADAC GT Masters.
